It is crucial to perform maintenance on your brick pavers. We recommend having them evaluated every 2 to 3 years. Of course, this is dependent on the type of sweeping sand used and the weather/climate conditions in your area. Here are the basic brick paver maintenance steps we recommend and will provide for you:
We will inspect your brick pavers and overall condition of the paver joints to identify any locations which may need localized repairs due to settling or restraint failure. We’ll then diagnose and correct any other variables which are having a detrimental effect on the brick paver hardscape such as downspouts, insects or rodents, creeping roots, sprinkler systems, etc.
We will perform the necessary repairs as identified above.
Then we’ll properly pressure wash your brick paver hardscape using an oscillating head or fan-style spraying nozzle, being careful not to leave any areas of contrast on the brick pavers. Areas of contrast are not aesthetically pleasing to the eye on the finished project. If we are stripping old sealer from your brick pavers, that will be incorporated into this step by applying stripper solution prior to the pressure washing.
We will dry your brick pavers thoroughly. Then we will apply the sweeping sand so that all the brick paver joints and bordering cracks are filled, using a broom and hand brush for corners and steps.
Finally, we’ll thoroughly mist your brick pavers and allow the sand to set up. Almost all styles of sand will start to bubble and create white suds, indicating the polymer activation is occurring. Once the water has been absorbed, it will require a second and possibly a third misting to complete this step and remove the white suds.
An example of the perfect installation of polymeric sand.
